Well, I wrote a Remix Madness story last night. I like it, but I'm kind of worried it's one of those remixes that won't make a lot of sense unless you've read the original. Nothing for it, though -- the original story is charming, but it has a really tight Character A POV, and I couldn't work everything into Character B's side of the story without turning him into a creeping creeper who creeps, particularly on Character A's private conversations.

I've been eyeballing the list again, because I would like to write another one, but I'm not finding a fandom that speaks to me. It probably doesn't seem like it, with all the Game of Thrones stuff that's been going on around here lately, but I've actually written a pile of HP fics in the last month or so, they're just all tied up in fests and exchanges.

I was just reading this post by musesfool about writing pinch-hits. She's totally right -- the best way to write a good story with a quick turn around is to use a structure or framework you can easily slot a story into, something you already know works for you as a narrative device, instead of trying to create something completely out of thin air. It's cracking me up though, because I keep thinking about the pinch-hit I wrote for go_exchange in 2005. My recipient wanted a crossover, so I sat down with the intention to write something like Five Times Aziraphale and Crowley Never Showed Up At Hogwarts and Disrupted the Natural Order of Things, but what I got was 22,000 words of a second apocalypse, with bonus points for Harry Potter as the new antichrist. WHATEVER, BRAIN.
