Moments Between Waking by [personal profile] keelywolfe [The Hobbit; Bilbo/Thorin, adult]

This is part three of a series; if you haven't read the other two, they are pretty flawless. This one is also fantastic, and bonus points for a spot-on Balin cameo.

break me like a promise by [personal profile] honey_wheeler [Game of Thrones; Jon/Sansa, adult]

Most Jon/Sansa fics hinge on a Targaryen reveal, where they get married after Jon's true parentage is discovered and build a relationship while working through the weirdness from being raised as siblings. This takes it in a different direction; Jon and Sansa have been married a few years when they find out Jon is Ned Stark's bastard after all, and they have to decide how to move forward.

Feelings-wise, that first piece of Hobbit art is pretty rude, to the point that when I first saw it I screamed NOPE NOPE NOPE and tried to cover my monitor with my hands, despite how beautiful it is. I said on Tumblr last night that I don't think I'll live to see the third movie, because the fandom is going to kill me before time with a cleverly-deployed gifset about the heart and loyalty of Durin's sons, or whatever. I feel like that fanart has justified my predicitions, just bury me in black.

Oddly, I don't remember being this emotional about the deaths when I read the book the first time. It might be because I was only seven or eight then, and I've just grown maudlin in my old age, or it might be related to fandom-as-a-phenomenon, and how the fannish vaccuum in a place like Tumblr amplifies everything to ridiculous degrees. It might also be a narrative thing; in the book, Bombur is occasionally fat for everyone's inconvenience, and Fili and Kili are often singled out for scouting missions, but beyond that the dwarves are largely an ensemble cast, aside from Thorin. Just, Tolkien's version is very much Bilbo's story, until they reach the Lonely Mountain and some of it is Thorin's; I was sad when Fili and Kili died, I think because they were young, but I wasn't all that broken up about Thorin, I think because I was still cross with him for his ridiculous argument with Bilbo over the Arkenstone.

Movie-wise, I'm hysterical about the Battle of Five Armies all across the board, I think because all the dwarves have their own unique personalities and stuff. Also, I don't think I've ever carried my childhood into a fandom before. I was 26 when I read Harry Potter, so.
