This was written for a what-if AU prompt at the kink meme -- what if Catelyn died, and Robert had Ned marry Margaery to strengthen his ties with the Tyrells -- and it is gloriously done. Ned is perfectly reluctant, and a little resentful, and Margaery is brilliant mix of wit and quiet shrewdness. She isn't any happier about the situation than Ned, at first, but she's willing to try, and she puts Ned in his place a few times because he is not. Bonus points for a flawless Benjen cameo.

Full disclosure: the first time I read this, I pretty much cried the whole way through. On the surface, it is a fic about having a difficult pregnancy and birth with Bran, and how she and Ned react to the idea that she might not be able to have anymore children, but underneath that, it's a sharp and quiet exploration of the harsh pressures women face in Westeros.

If you are looking for a future fic where winter has swallowed everything in its path, this is it, and it is wonderfully done. Everything is spot on -- the prose, the quiet narrative, the band of misfits Jon is traveling with, the idea that the people winter spared are all crammed into one holdfast to eke out the best living they can.

These two fics are a matched pair set in the same universe, and they are gloriously, ridiculously hot. The first one is in Jon's POV and the second one is in Val's, and they are both pitch perfect, and -- again, hot in ways I cannot even put into words.

I can't believe I haven't recced this sooner -- she posted it weeks ago, and I betaed it, so I know exactly how awesome it is. Here we have a long fic wherein Sam hears about Jon's... difficulties at the Wall and leaves Oldtown to go be with him. Everything about it warmed my shippy little heart.

Speaking of my shippy heart: as much as I love a good AU where Theon loves Robb enough to make better decisions, I also love a good canon-timeline fic where Theon loves Robb but does what he does anyway, because at the end of the day, he is still Theon fucking Greyjoy. UGH. This hurt in every perfect, possible way.
