things and stuff.
Well, I wrote a Remix Madness story last night. I like it, but I'm kind of worried it's one of those remixes that won't make a lot of sense unless you've read the original. Nothing for it, though -- the original story is charming, but it has a really tight Character A POV, and I couldn't work everything into Character B's side of the story without turning him into a creeping creeper who creeps, particularly on Character A's private conversations.
I've been eyeballing the list again, because I would like to write another one, but I'm not finding a fandom that speaks to me. It probably doesn't seem like it, with all the Game of Thrones stuff that's been going on around here lately, but I've actually written a pile of HP fics in the last month or so, they're just all tied up in fests and exchanges.
I was just reading this post by
musesfool about writing pinch-hits. She's totally right -- the best way to write a good story with a quick turn around is to use a structure or framework you can easily slot a story into, something you already know works for you as a narrative device, instead of trying to create something completely out of thin air. It's cracking me up though, because I keep thinking about the pinch-hit I wrote for
go_exchange in 2005. My recipient wanted a crossover, so I sat down with the intention to write something like Five Times Aziraphale and Crowley Never Showed Up At Hogwarts and Disrupted the Natural Order of Things, but what I got was 22,000 words of a second apocalypse, with bonus points for Harry Potter as the new antichrist. WHATEVER, BRAIN.

I'm not surprised that this list is weighted toward Game of Thrones -- it's a super active fandom right now, in a READ ALL THE THINGS/SHIP ALL THE SHIPS kind of way, and Jon/Robb and Robb/Theon are pretty popular slash pairings. The 500 hit gulf between the first two Harry Potter fics isn't all that surprising either, I guess. Peer Pressure is 1,100 words of the Marauders standing around and snarking at each other but not really doing a whole lot, and Sins of the Father is 3,000 words of filthy, mildly kinky pornography.
Hello there, Bandom fic! I'd forgotten I'd written you.
Speaking of AO3, the OTW is hosting an online survey about AO3 and some of their other fannish projects.
