Apparently, I lied about the music meme. Behold:

1. If you'd like to play along, reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. You then list at least five songs that start with that letter.
3. Then, as I'm doing here, you'll post the list to your journal with the instructions.

[personal profile] pauraque gave me R!

(The joke was on me -- there are no MCR songs that start with R)

Rocky Road to Dublin [Dropkick Murphys]

This utterly flawless band is probably in my top five of all time. I saw then in concert in 2008, and they completely blew me away. This punk cover of a traditional Irish song is one of my absolute favorites of theirs, but I'm also partial to Fields of Athenry, The Dirty Glass, and Worker's Song.

Recluse [Midtown]

Did I ever tell you guys about the time I talked to Gabe Saporta on the telephone?

(for about seventeen seconds)

A friend of mine was backstage at a Cobra Starship concert, and she happened to be on the phone with me when she was introduced to Gabe. She shoved the phone at him at said say hello to Julie, and so he dutifully said Hello, Julie in the sexiest voice ever. Fortunately, the connection dropped before I really started to hyperventilate.

This feels like an appropriate time to link to this picture again, because that shit will never stop being funny. Even Gabe agrees.

Reinventing the Wheel to Run Over Myself [Fall Out Boy]

My love for Fall Out Boy is pure, but there are special places in my heart for Take This To Your Grave and From Under the Cork Tree. I always forget how young Patrick was when this band started, until I listen to their older stuff. He was only sixteen when they recorded Evening Out With Your Girlfriend, and he totally sounds it, too.

Ready For Drowning [Manic Street Preachers]

This song is actually about a town in Wales that was flooded to make a reservoir. Everything about it hurts my heart. Of course, everything about Manic Street Preachers hurts my heart, in general. They also did a pretty wicked cover of the M*A*S*H theme, Suicide is Painless.

Rise [Pantera]

Pantera made the music of my soul when I was in high school. I saw them in concert seven times -- twice when I was pregnant with my son. The second time I was nearly eight months along, and I had trouble getting in, and once I did get in I ended up with my own security guard. My exhusband, who was getting his ass kicked in the pit while I was sitting on the lawn and adding to my water weight with a family-sized bag of Fritos, thought the whole thing was hilarious.

While I have you here, I'll give you my five favorite MCR songs, because it isn't a music post until I've had a meltdown about Gerard Way's stupid face flawless voice.

Zero Percent [Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys]

Kill All Your Friends [Famous Last Words EP]

Headfirst for Halos [I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love]

Famous Last Words [The Black Parade]

Thank You For the Venom [Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge]

Bonus awesome cover songs:

All I Want For Christmas Is You [Kevin & Bean's: Christmas Time in the 909]

Desolation Row [The Watchman Soundtrack]

I will now link to this awesome video of Gerard singing Umbrella, because it is hilarious and flawless at precisely the same time. Also, there was that time MCR was on Yo Gabba Gabba, which is worth a look for their ridiculous outfits alone.

My son is playing Call of Duty loudly. I keep trying to explain to him that shouting at the television will not make him die less or respawn faster.
